About Us:

Lloyd Russell was active in the Atlanta gay community as both an
activist and business person. He owned the Cove for many years,
ran for Lt. Governor in 1998 as a Libertarian candidate, was a board
member of Atlanta Pride, was active in Atlanta politics, served as a
media activist during the 1960's as well as held the property on
which the Phoenix Bar conducted business.

His primary focus was education for all. He endowed a chair in
journalism at a major university and worked within the leather
community to broaden horizons and acceptance on many levels.
Lloyd knew in his heart that knowledge is power and knowledge
leads to tolerance. In his years, he learned many things about many
The mission of the foundation is to provide the GBLTQ and leather
communities with funding for programs and activities which
enhance mental and physical heath, provide social support and to
foster in Atlanta and the southeast an awareness of past and present
contributions of the GBLTQ and leather communities.
